In case you missed it, former Kaizer Chiefs FC’s goalkeeper and current Moroka Swallows FC number one goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has sent a message to Amakhosi long serving goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.
Daniel Akpeyi did send an inspiring message to his former competitor and teammate, Itumeleng Khune.
Veteran Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has sent an inspiring message to Kaizer Chiefs ‘Itumeleng Khune ahead of the current season(Akpeyi sent a message to Khune before the start of the current season, case you missed his message, you are covered).
With Khune hoping to revive his career in the new season under Arthur Zwane and his technical team, after failing to make a single league appearance last season, Akpeyi believes that the ex- Mzansi’s number one still has it takes to don the Amakhosi jersey.
“The advantage that goalkeepers have more that the infield players is that they can play to their 40s. They can play up to 42, 43 and so on , as long as you can take care of your body and looking after your self. For example (Gianluigi) Buffon is 44 now and he still plays in a top club. He has recently renewed his contract ( in February) by two more years. The former Egyptian national team goalkeeper(Essam El Hadary), who is national team goalkeeper now retired at 45. (Iker) Casillas and a lot of others have gone on and on and it’s just how you take care of your self. For me, it is all about your belief and your work ethic.” said Akpeyi.
“I think he (Khune) sees himself like that, that he can still give to the game and looking at the things that he ‘s trying to put in place and things he’s trying to do, It shows that he believes he still has a lot to offer. I just pray that injury doesn’t cut him off. If the team decides to make him a coach and all of that at some stage , I don’t think that will be bad either because he has got all the qualities “, the Nigerian International added.
Apart from that, Moroka Swallows goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has discussed facing his former side Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership this coming Sunday.
“It’s just a regular feeling when you have to play any PSL team because your first goal is for you to grab a three points and stay on top of the league, like where we are at the moment,” Akpeyi told the media.
“It’s gonna be a bit emotional because you’re playing against a team that put you on top of the ladder. I think it’s gonna be all about it.
“The most important thing is the three points. I think playing that is kind of struggling is a difficult one to play,” he added.
“It’s not going to be an easy one on Sunday because they are looking for points everywhere, we are looking to sustain our position on the log.
“So this is going to be a case of two lions fighting, at the end of the day. But we’re already expecting what’s to come at the end of the day and we’ve prepared for it.”
