Kaizer Chiefs head Coach Arthur Zwane has made a shocking revelation that the Club is going to the transfer market in January
Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has confirmed that the club is contemplating going back into the transfer market, when the window re-opens in January, to beef up their squad.
The Glamour Boys made nine signings at the start of the current 2022/23 season and Zwane says, though they are in a “rebuilding phase”, there is room to add more players that can take Chiefs a notch up.
“Most definitely,” he responded to being asked about needing to beef up in the mid-season transfer window.
“The plan we had was to give all the players we had an opportunity because we are in sort of a rebuilding phase, we are a work in progress, and we wanted to see before we start releasing players.
“Firstly, we wanted to see and give a lot of players an opportunity because when you are building a style of play and identity, you want to give most of the players a fair chance.
“And the identity itself, or style of play, will obviously talk to the players that can fit in and also those who cannot fit in, and from there you can see as to who you have to bring in, in terms of beefing up the team and who you have to release.”
The window will open on 1 January for only a month, and that means Chiefs should already have their eye on which players to rope in.
Zwane did not want to identify the areas that need strengthening, dwelling instead on the fact that the current crop are still getting better.
“When you look at the team, it is gelling. Everyone – for me, George [Matlou] came in and did very well, and played a lot of forward passes; Sithebe came in, started a bit slow but as the game progressed he did well,” he added.
“We’ll get to a point where everyone knows their role and responsibilities and goes out there to execute the plan. Yes, today [Saturday] it wasn’t to be but the boys tried their level best for the fact that we created a lot of chances, though we did not take them.”
The only place that needs to be beef up is the straking force
