In other news, Evidence Makgopa has a message for his critics & doubters ahead of Bafana Bafana’s clash against Cape Verde
“You cannot force someone to love you, you cannot force someone to support you, for me, I think I just have to take it the way it is, play my football,” Makgopa told reporters.
“I have a coach who believes in me, the coach who called me up to Bafana, the people were already saying why this player?
“So, for the fact that coach called me, I am here to do a job, I’m here to play and I’m going play my whole heart for him,” he added.
“I am going to do whatever I have to do for the coach because he believes in me.
“So, I have to show him I can do it [perform well for the team]. I’m always motivated, there’s nothing that can shake me.”
Adding more on that, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says the opportunity to reach the Last-4 of the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 24 years is also motivation for the squad to emulate the class of 1996 in Ivory Coast.
“I always said [support] comes with results, once you have results, the rest will come, so I think we can say now we have good results,” Broos said about fans flocking to buy Bafana shirts this week.
“Secondly it’s certainly a motivation for all my players, that it’s been so long since South Africa played the semi-final or final [of AFCON], so that motivates us to do as good as the guys of ’96.
“So it’s normal when you’re a sportsman you want to do great things and I know my players will do that thirdly if you saw the reaction in the dressing room after the game against Morocco, you can be sure they are motivated to do something special.”
