Kaizer Chiefs FC football manager Bobby Motaung has confirmed that as a management, they are set to make an announcement regarding their goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and others. Khune’s with Chiefs will expire at the end of the season.
Kaizer Chiefs FC are in discussion about the contract of legendary goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, according to club football manager Bobby Motaung.
Khune who is the longest serving member of the current Chiefs squad, will see his contract with Chiefs expire in June.
The former Bafana Bafana captain, who was initially promoted by the late Ted Dumitru in 2004, has seen little action this season with Brandon Petersen preferred in goals by coach Arthur Zwane since Khune dropped out of the line-up due to injuries.
That has meant a reduced role for Khune, who has featured in 11 matches in all competitions, keeping just two clean sheets.
Khune was on the bench as Chiefs beat Royal AM 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final in extra-time at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday night. Chiefs will now host Orlando Pirates in the Ke Yona Cup semi-final next month, possible on 6 May.
When asked about Khune’s contract situation and whether they will offer their long-term captain a new deal, Motaung remained tightlipped.
“We are in discussions about that,” Motaung told iDiski Times.
“We are also talking about other players whose contracts are expiring at the end of the season. At the moment, [I can’t say much] as we will make an announcement.”
Khune made his Chiefs debut on 25 August 2007 against Jomo Cosmos under Muhsin Ertugral when he was 20-years-two-months-and-five days old, at Kings Park Stadium in Durban.
Since then, he has won three league titles (though that of 2004/05 season he did not play a single match), two MTN8, three Telkom Knockouts and one Nedbank Cup with Amakhosi.
Bobby Motoung told idiski times that they are preparing a new contract for Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune as his contract will be coming to an end on the 30th of June.
Other players contract renewals are also being discussed in the boardroom, but not much has been said about those certain players who will get contract extension at the end of the current campaign.
Itumeleng Khune,Khama Billiat ,Sfiso Hlanti, Phathutshedzo Nange, Eric Mathoho and Cole Alexander will all see their contract running out at the end of this campaign. There’s an option in Sfiso Hlanti’s contract and the team is likely to exercise the option to extend his contract. Hlanti is a 1st choice left back in the squad and he hasn’t done that bad thus far.
Some of those player(s) there will get a contract extension. Khune surely being the 1st one, Hlanti also likely to also stay with the club. I suspect Khama Billiat might also have his contract extended at the end of the current campaign. The question now lies on both Cole Alexander and Phathutshedzo Nange, for me they might leave with Gavin Hunt being the admire of both midfielders.
