Cassius Mailula, a former standout player for Mamelodi Sundowns, was rumored to be playing in the PSL again in South Africa.
While the MLS season is still ongoing, there were rumors that the recently relocated South African star would be joining Mamelodi Sundowns on loan for a few months.
As per the information provided by our source, Mamelodi Sundowns intended to bring Mailula to South Africa in order to keep him engaged.
The player was also told that he needed to sign with a South African team in order for the national team coach to consider him for the AFCON squad.
Although there have been rumors that Cassius Mailula will return to Sundowns on a short-term loan, sources say that is unlikely to happen. Moreover, this implies that Cassius Mailula will not play in AFCON 2023.
Mailula and his current club agreed to a three-year deal that will expire on December 31, 2026, with an additional one-year option.
His Club Career started at Sundowns. Mailula made his senior debut for Mamelodi Sundowns in the South African Premier Division during a 1–0 win against Chippa United in September 2022. He scored his first senior goals on 14 October 2022, in a match against La Passe FC in the CAF Champions League, netting a hat-trick. He scored his first league goals on 25 October, netting a brace against Maritzburg United. Mailula was subsequently named the league’s Young Player of the Season for his debut campaign.
In July 2023, Mailula signed with Major League Soccer club Toronto FC, signing through the 2026 season, with an option for 2027.
