Mamelodi Sundowns’ Rhulani Mokwena is becoming a wanted man. According to reports, two African giants are after him.
Soccer Laduma claims that separate queries on the Sundowns coach were made by Wydad Casablanca and Al Ahly.
The Siya crew was lead to believe that Mokwena, who was appointed as Mamelodi Sundowns’ only head coach in October of last year, was the subject of two separate attempts by different teams to have a casual talk.
“It has come to light that the young South African coach may have been courted by agents and officials during their recent trip to Egypt and match against Al Ahly. Rumor has it that Al Ahly and Wydad used the downs fixture to determine whether Mokwena would be interested in leaving the team”
“There are signs that a person visiting the Sundowns hotel on the pretense of being sent by Wydad did so, although it is unclear how successful he was in contacting Mokwena”.
“But after leaving, witnesses claim that officials who are known to have close relations to Al Ahly also spoke to the coach about a potential swap”.
It is unclear whether Wydad will continue to show interest given that Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido was re-hired a day after Sundowns held Al Ahly to a 2-2 draw in Cairo.
Al Ahly hired Swiss Coach Marcel Koller in September of last year and granted him a deal that expires in September of this year. June 2024, which is also the expiration date of Mokwena’s contract with Downs
