The last time a Kaizer Chiefs FC player making a promise to Amakhosi fans, it was the Zambian attacker Lazorous Kambole. After signing a co tract with Amakhosi, he did promise Chiefs fans a war, that he will start against other teams by scoring goals.
At the moment, Ashely Du Preez is the one who has sent a promise to Amakhosi faithfuls ahead of Kaizer Chiefs FC clash against Sekhukhune United tomorrow.
The 26-year-old forward has become a clear fan favourite at Amakhosi since his R10-million transfer from Stellenbosch in July 2022.
And it’s been showcased as he made the PSL All Star XI as voted by the fans despite missing the last few weeks for Chiefs with an injury.
With 12 goals and seven assists in 44 games in all competitions, Du Preez feels he needs to improve those numbers as they target more consistency in their results.
“The three back-to-back games we’ve won has been amazing for the team, that’s what we want, we want to continue with this winning mentality,” Du Preez said ahead of the Sekhukhune game as they look for four consecutive victories.
“So we want to win the next game, the last game of the year, we want to go out there and enjoy ourselves, get three points and end the year on a high note – I think for us as a team it’s about striving to do better and win games.
“I’m going to work extremely [hard] to help the team get three points to end this year on a high note, it’s nice to be back from injury. It’s a huge setback to be injured, mentally it can be frustrating – it’s nice to be back and to get minutes against Richards Bay.
“I’m happy we won the game – I’m almost fully back 120%, so to play a few minutes was nice, touching the ball with the team, in front of the fans – I loved it. Now it’s to get goals to help the team win – it’s my ambition for 2024, score more goals.”
Du Preez will be pushing for a start when Amakhosi face Sekhukhune tomorrow at the Peter Mokaba Stadium (19h30).
In other news, it is well known that the teenager Mfundo Vilakazi was spotted training with Kaizer Chiefs FC senior team. In as much as Amakhosi faithfuls feel that he will add an impact to the senior team, some are wondering and want to know why he is training with Kaizer Chiefs FC big team.
While digging, we got the real reason behind the “promoting” of Mfundo Vilakazi who has just completed his matric results. According to the sources, Vilakazi is training with the senior team for him to gain or adjust to a senior level pressure so that he can fit well in Carling All Stars team that will face Stellenbosch FC on the 6th December 2023. Carling All Star is a team former with players who are voted by South African football followers.
South Africans voted Vilakazi to be part of the team that will face the champions of Carling Black Label Cup(Stellenbosch FC). This simply means Vilakazi is training with the senior team because he will be part of senior team that will face Stellenbosch FC next year, in January.
