A foreign striker who recently competed against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in the Euro 2024 qualifiers may be of interest to Kaizer Chiefs.
This could be the case even though Cavin Johnson, the interim coach, has already said he is confident in his team and might not add players.
According to Siya sources close to the team, the player that Chiefs may have enquired about is Slovakian international striker Robert Polievka, who is currently playing for MFK Dukla Banska Bystrica’s first team in his native country.
The siya source said that Kaizer Chiefs may be interested in signing him in this January transfer window or at end of season, ahead of next season.
“There will be changes in terms of playing personnel. It could be this transfer window period or at end of season but Robert Polievka is one of the players that Kaizer Chiefs is already looking for. This is not the first time as three years ago the scouts identified him but things didn’t work out because he was changing teams. But now they have reopened their interest as their European connections and scouts are working on that. So yes these are some pointers on the renewed interest in Robert Polievka from the club,” said the siya source
“What I’m sure of is when it could happen is this January transfer window or at end of season. But the interest is there from the club. The last time they wanted him he was still young but he has grown now both as a player and a person so they feel it could be the right time to bring him in,” the siya source stated.
The Slovakian international striker was previously linked to Kaizer Chiefs under former coach Stuart Baxter, but the deal fell through and Amakhosi signed South African sensation Keagan Dolly in its stead.
