According to the rumours that reached Senzo Sambo Football News’s office earlier today, former Kaizer Chiefs FC best goalkeeper who used to be a number one goalkeeper ahead of Itumeleng Khune is back into the world of football.
Rumours have it that the Nigerian number one goalkeeper Daniel “Nomarishia” Akpeyi might get himself a contract with a team playing in South African professional league. According to the rumours, Akepyi will join Swallows FC on a short term contract. The deal is expected to be finalised within forty eight hours from now.
In 2015, Daniel Akpeyi signed a two-year contract deal with Chippa United, he then later in 2019 joined Kaizer Chiefs FC. He played couple of games and guided Kaizer Chiefs FC to participate in the CAF champions league, where Amakhosi failed to win CAF after losing finals 3-0. However in 2022, last year Kaizer Chiefs FC and Daniel Akpeyi failed to reach an agreement, and he left the club.
Akpeyi has been a free agent since leaving The Glomour Boys, he has been training with DStv premier league teams with a hope of gaining a contract. Those teams include Sekhukhune United, but things went unfortunate. Akpeyi(nick named Man of God) will be thirty-seven years old this year, but his body language says otherwise, that’s why he is still among one of the best goalkeepers in Africa continent.
During his time The love and peace(Chiefs), Akpeyi won a man of the match award after amazing performance against Chiefs rivals Orlando Pirates on the 29 February 2020, where Chiefs won that game 1-0, thanks to Lebohang Manyama who scored a goal from the outside the box.
Akpeyi was competing with Chiefs longest serving player Itumeleng Khune, Bruce Bvuma and Brylon Lee Peterson. But both Peterson and Akpeyi are no longer Amakhosi players.
