Benson Omala Ochieng is a Kenyan striker who features for Kenyan Premier League side Gor Mahia F.C. He formerly turned out for Western Stima F.C. and Swedish division one side FC Linköping City.
Benson Omala is a Kenyan international, and Orlando Pirates was the first South African team to be said to be interested in him last month. However, it now appears that Kaizer Chiefs have joined the fray.
Similar to Pirates, Chiefs have already committed to a large number of forwards for the 2022–2023 season, but it doesn’t appear that this will stop them from pursuing Omala.
Omala presently plays for Kenyan powerhouse Gor Mahia in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL), and with Pirates on the horizon, his contribution to that league this season has not gone unnoticed.
The striker has been in outstanding form for Gor Mahia this year, and with 23 goals in 25 games, he currently leads the KPL goal scorers list. According to the most recent rumors, that style of form from Omala appears to have caught the eye of Pirates and then Chiefs.
Omala had a 100% strike rate with Gor Mahia in the KPL at the time the Pirates were linked to him, scoring 19 goals in 19 games for the East African powerhouses. With the likes of Bienvenu Eva Nga, Evidence Magkopa, Kermit Erasmus, Ndumiso Mabena, and Cameroonian international Souaibo Marou already on board, the pirates.
The Buccaneers won’t likely keep any of those acquisitions because they haven’t changed the game for them, and they’ll probably unload at least four forwards, including those on the list and those on loan. Along with Bonfis Caleb-Bimenyimana and most recent addition Christian Saile, Chiefs have signed Ashley du Preez from Stellenbosch.
For Chiefs, Du Preez is the only player on that list who appears to be consistently reliable, as Bimenyimana and Saile continue to exhibit erratic performance. According to KickOff.com, it should come as no surprise that they are also considering Omala.
“Chiefs have shown interest (in Omala). They are monitoring the striker in Kenya. He is currently the best player in the Kenyan Premier League. There is also interest from overseas” a source told the same publication
