Kaizer Chiefs defender Austin Dube has left Kaizer Chiefs to re-join his former side Richards Bay, iDiski Times can confirm.
Dube, 30, was released by Chiefs after both parties agreed to terminate his contract which was still left with one year to run.
Even though the clubs are yet to confirm the news, Dube is back in KwaZulu-Natal, a source told this publication.
“Austin Dube was part of Richards Bay side that played friendly match against Golden Arrows on Wednesday and he is set to be unveiled by the club,” the source said.
The left-footed centre-back featured in 17 matches in all competitions in his first season at Naturena but he only made one appearance last campaign — in a 3-2 loss against Golden Arrows in February, playing the entire 90 minutes.
Dube was signed by Chiefs at the beginning of the 2021/22 season from Bay, after his impressive and polished display in the defence for the Natal Rich Boyz in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
He scored against the very same Amakhosi in the 2020/21 campaign in the first round of the Nedbank Cup to knock the Soweto giants out, as Bay won 2-1 at FNB Stadium under coach Simo Dladla.
He also frustrated against Chiefs with TS Galaxy in the Ke Yona Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in 2018/19 season, as Tim Sukazi’s club became the first second-tier side to win the South Africa’s FA Cup, where he featured the entire match.
Dube joins Letsie Koapeng, Lucky Mohomi, Justice Figareido, Thato Mohlamme, Thobani Mthembu, Nkululeko Miya and Bandile Ndlovu as new players at Bay, while they have also announced Kaitano Tembo as the club’s new coach.
One of the reasons Austin Dube left the team it was because he was not in the plans of coach Molefi Ntseki and he did not get enough game time last season.
