AmaZulu Fc have confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs is interested in signing their key player.
When it comes to transfers recently, Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu are not known to work well together.
The Chiefs now seem to be returning to their previous pattern of circling AmaZulu. Sphesihle Maduna, a forward, appears to be the player in concern this time.
According to reports from late last year, Chiefs were interested in Maduna and were watching to see what would happen with the player’s contract predicament at AmaZulu.
Although Amakhosi cannot now sign the player on a pre-contract like Sithebe did last season because the player is reportedly under contract to Usuthu through the end of the following season, they would have to pay a transfer fee to acquire him.
On the other hand, it appears the Chiefs were confused about when the player’s contract was set to expire.
The Glamour Boys appear to have planned a free move for the 23-year-old after being made to believe that the player’s contract with AmaZulu will expire at the conclusion of the current season.
Since then, AmaZulu chairman Sandile Zungu has clarified any misunderstandings and gone further to state that Chiefs were only one of a select group of teams that had shown interest in Maduna’s services.
“Kaizer Chiefs did talk to us some time ago. It’s just one of the parties that contacted us about Maduna, . He’s our player for quite some time. He signed a new contract two seasons ago. I hear people saying he’s going [at the] end of this season. He’s got another season with us.” Zungu told Far Post
