Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Derrick Spencer says defender Njabulo Ngcobo should look to prove himself at a new club after he was transfer-listed by Amakhosi.
Ngcobo, 29, still has one more left on his contract at Naturena but was put on the transfer list by Chiefs, as REPORTED by SSNEWS.
He joined Amakhosi at the beginning of the 2021/22 season from Swallows after he was named the PSL Defender of The Season with the Dube Birds in the previous campaign after they gained promotion in 2020.
The 29-year-old signed a contract that will last until June 2024, meaning he is entering the last season in his contract with the club – but Chiefs are seemingly keen to cash in on him.
“It’s a tough one, it’s a very tricky situation to be in. If he wants to prove himself, he must go and find another team because he has been transfer-listed,” Spencer told SSNEWS.
“He must ask for a loan, go out there and prove that you are a quality player. The time he left Swallows, he was the Defender of the Season, so he’s a good player.
“It is just currently the whole group of Chiefs, it’s difficult to see who is playing better. It is not nice to see.”
Ngcobo just started eight matches in all competitions for Chiefs last term, with coach Zwane preferring Zitha Kwinika, Siyabonga Ngezana and Edmilson Dove in the middle of defence.
As things stand, it is highly unlikely that Zwane will be Chiefs coach next term, as SSNEWS has been informed the club’s leadership are in official talks with Young Africans coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Spencer insisted a new coach alone will not solve the trick for the Glamour Boys, if they want to close the gap to Mamelodi Sundowns – having lost a record of 12 league matches in 2022/23.
“The squad is very thin,” said Spencer, who won eight trophies at Chiefs including two league titles,” he added.
“They need to go out there and buy players, get scouts to buy players. You look at Mamelodi Sundowns, they don’t just buy, they scout first and sign the player that will fit their style of play.
“Look at this boy Marcelo Allende, how did they get him? Chiefs needs to do the same thing to start all over again.”
Spencer himself joined Chiefs ahead of the 2003/04 season, alongside Fabian McCarthy, Patrick Mayo, Jabulani Mendu, the late Lucky Maselesele, Sibusiso Dlamini, Bevan Fransman and Kaizer Junior Motaung.
He left the club ahead of the 2008/09 season to join Mamelodi Sundowns after winning eight trophies during his time at Naturena.
According to a source,Kaizer Chiefs are set to terminate the contract of Njabulo Ngcobo at the end of the season and it has been confirmed that he will go back to Swallows Football Club.
Kaizer chiefs management supposed to keep all the players until the new coach take over so that he can see who’s going to play for him or not I mean you cannot put players on transfer list because of zwane ngcobo did not play in his natural position infact all New players are not playing in their natural positions zwane destroyed them in his converting system you can’t blame those players which under performed under zwane a new real coach will see the different in ngcobo Austin Dube mashiane sefama Hadebe sekgotha matlou mahlatse All this are good Young players which zwane destroyed
