Kaizer Chiefs are searching for a new goalkeeper, but it appears that one of their main targets may not be heading to Naturena.
Salim Magoola from Richards Bay was reportedly offered by the Natal team to the Naturena-based Kaizer Chiefs, but the Chiefs reportedly declined the offer.
For different reasons, this season, none of Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Petersen, or Itumeleng Khune have impressed in goal. Following several prominent mistakes, Petersen was dropped from the team in October, and club captain Khune was suspended for misbehavior.
FarPost claims that the Glamour Boys were unable to complete a deal with the Chiefs after the Natal Rich Boyz offered them Magoola because it would have exceeded their foreign quota. Currently, Christian Saile, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Edson Castillo, Efmamjjasond Gonzalez, and Edmilson Dove are the five foreign stars that make up Amakhosi’s roster.
Richards Bay wants to exercise the option to extend Magoola’s contract until June 2025, even though it expires at the end of the current campaign. But, they would prefer to profit now than lose him for nothing. The Ugandan player, who was named Player of the Month in September and October of 2022–23, was a major player.
His football career started when Salim has played club football in Uganda for Express FC and the Kampala Capital City Authority FC.
He was signed by Express FC after the Inter regions tournament in 2011, which was won by his team Central. In 2012, he was attending Kampala University as a first year student undertaking a degree in human resource management and was one of the nominees for Bell Super League goalkeeper of the year. He made his international debut for Uganda on 10 July 2012 against South Sudan. He was a member of the Ugandan Cranes Team for two African Cap of Nations (AFCON) Finals in 2017 in Gabon and 2019 in Egypt.
