Kaizer Chiefs are searching for a new goalkeeper to replace legendary goalie Itumeleng Khune who is rumored to be leaving the club.
It’s been speculated that the Chiefs intend to give young goalkeepers an opportunity to start instead of extending Itumeleng Khune’s contract. Itumeleng Khune, however, appears not to want to retire just yet, and it is possible that he will leave the team at the end of the season.
It is said that Kaizer Chiefs are interested in signing a new goalkeeper to take Itumeleng Khune’s place as he leaves.
Since the Chiefs have already declared that Khune will retire at the end of the season, he may need to play elsewhere if he decides to follow his own wishes. Having said that, according to Soccer-Laduma, Amakhosi have reportedly contacted goalkeeper Sage Stephens of Stellenbosch FC.
“According to reliable sources privy to the player movements in the Premier Soccer League, it’s now emerged that Amakhosi (Chiefs) have asked questions about whether Stellenbosch would be willing to sell the experienced star” wrote the publication.
Though he has shown himself to be reliable behind the youth at Stellenbosch, Stephens would be an unexpected addition to the Chiefs. Perhaps that kind of command and leadership is precisely what’s needed to cover up the weak Amakhosi defense.
