According to the latest reports, Kaizer Chiefs FC goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has impressed the overseas club in France.
The long serving Kaizer Chiefs FC goalkeeper’s contract will end at the end of the current season. It’s not yet clear if he will get an extension since there is a club overseas whom he is linked up with. This reports pop up after hearing that Kaizer Chiefs FC are interested and linked up with Richards Bay goalkeeper Salim Magoola, a Ugandan goalkeeper who has more than ten cleansheets this season.
Itumeleng Khune is reported to have impressed the club called Clermont in France. Khune joined Kaizer Chiefs FC in 1999 as a junior player. He was promoted to a senior team in 2004, where he started showing good performance. He made his debut to a senior team in 2007 against Jomo Cosmos. He was promoted by Mushin Ertugral after the first choice goalkeeper Emille Baron got an injury. That game, Kaizer Chiefs FC played 1-1 against the mentioned club.
It is not the first time Itumeleng Khune being linked with an overseas club. In 2021 before getting a 2 years contract extension, Khune was linked with one of soccer clubs in Qatar. He didn’t end up joining that club due to reasons that were not announced but we can guess that he wanted to make a record of one of the longest serving players in South Africa.
Isaac Khune made it clear that he wants to play untill he reaches forty plus years. But he didn’t make it clear weather he wants to retire at Kaizer Chiefs or not. However, he said he wants to leave Kaizer Chiefs FC as legend. Khune is one of the biggest earners in Naturena he is earning around R450 000.00 per month. It’s not yet clear weather he will stay when his contract come to an end or not. But according to the rumours he will only stay if he make a payment cut unless if he ends up joining Clermont.
Itumeleng Khune is competing against Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma and Bontle Molefe. He was benched on the previous game against Royal AM. Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane, benched him because of individual errors that ended Chiefs in conceding six goals in three games this season only. He was not benched alone, he was benched with the deffender Zitha Kwinika, who was replaced by Siyabonga Ngezana.
