Longest serving player and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has broken his silence regarding his teammate and competitor who has started lot of games than all keepers, Brandon Petersen.
Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has made a bold claim about his fellow teammate and goalkeeper Brandon Petersen.
This comes after Petersen was dropped and left out of Chiefs’ last three DStv Premiership matches.
Interim coach Calvin Johnson stated the reason for dropping Petersen as a ‘psychological’ matter insisting that Amakhosi are protecting the goalie.
Petersen has had a difficult 2023/24 PSL season, facing criticism from Chiefs’ faithful for his costly schoolboy errors that have seen the team drop points and bow out of the MTN8.
The 29-year-old has been the Glamour Boys’ preferred choice in between the sticks since the beginning of the season.
His statistics are not so good, so far. He has made 11 appearances in all competitions and let it 10 goals. He has managed to only keep four clean sheets in the process.
ITUMELENG KHUNE CLAIMS BRANDON PETERSEN HAS POTENTIAL TO PLAY FOR BAFANA BAFANA;
Khune has claimed that Petersen is a great goalkeeper despite his recent form, saying he is the future Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.
“He’s a great goalkeeper since he came to the club. He’s a future Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and I support him on that,” said Khune.

Brandon Petersen warming up for Kaizer Chiefs before a match in the DStv Premiership;
“I say to him, ‘don’t drop your head, don’t give up, keep pushing, keep working hard and your best will come.’
“He has played more games than me in the past two or three seasons. It shows that he’s good and shows that he’s got great potential.
Khune, who is set to retire at the end of the current season further believes the captain’s armband will be in safe hands with Petersen.
This season in the absence of Khune and Keagan Dolly on the field, Petersen has always been handed the responsibility of being the captain.
“As the captain of the club, I’m grooming him on my way out. When the legs cannot carry me anymore, the armband will be in safe hands,” Khune added.
However, Kaizer Chiefs FC fans are saying Khune is just being professional, they believe Brandon Petersen is not a good goalkeeeper at all. What’s are your thought?
However, before then, Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has been advised on what he should have done against Mamelodi Sundowns and how he can learn from Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine.
“When Orlando Pirates were playing Royal AM, Sipho Chaine realised that, ‘Okay, there’s a press on (Nkosinathi) Sibisi, there’s press on (Tapelo) Xoki, my midfield is locked, they’ve gone one on one, what do I do?’ Komphela asked journalists at the MTN8 launch.
“Then he went long, the ball bounced behind the defence, (Zakhele) Lepasa got the ball (and scored), it’s an assist from the goalkeeper, it’s not the only one, it happens even for Man City. Ederson does that. It will happen more often,” he said.
“And on top of that, there’s still gonna be a lot of goals conceded from a high press, losing the ball and conceding. You saw in the game when Mamelodi Sundowns were playing against Chiefs,” he said.
“High press, back pass to the keeper, trying to play the ball in the first line of defence, under pressure, a mistake committed, goal conceded. It happens, pre-season we conceded two of those against Orlando Pirates,” he added.
