According to rumors, Orlando Pirates are reportedly interested in another goalkeeper who competes for PSL opponents.
The Buccaneers are searching for a successor for goalkeeper Richard Ofori, a Ghanaian who turned down a new contract extension.
It appears like Orlando Pirates and standout goalie Richard Ofori are still working out the specifics of a new contract. The Ghanaian goalkeeper’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but because of his essential role in the Pirates team’s success, it has always been anticipated that he will sign a new and better contract
Yet, it appears that Pirates are leaving their options open in case this doesn’t happen.
According to one report from Phakaaathi, the Buccaneers may be most interested in hiring Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse, who has struggled to establish himself as Masandawana’s starting goalie.
Also due to the impending departure of Siyabonga Mpontshane, the source has stated that Orlando Pirates are searching for a replacement.
“There is a need for a goalkeeper at the club (Pirates),” said a source, with veteran goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane also set to be let go by Pirates. “At the moment Pieterse is the best candidate so far and they are ready to give him a good offer.”
According to Sport Laduma, Pirates may also be keeping a watch on Sekhukhune goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata, who is from Zambia.
“For now, it is the Ofori situation that will determine what happens next with Nsabata,” a source is quoted as saying. “But yes, the team is monitoring him and keeping tabs on his progress. They are happy with what they have seen so far.”
Several recent rumors claim that the former Maritzburg United star Richard Ofori is allegedly not happy with the present offer.
“I don’t know why Richard has been making this process so long, because he wants to stay at the team, I know that,” a Phakaaathi source was quoted as saying last month. “I know that he has always wanted to play for a big team in South Africa. He got that and he just needs to humble himself and play football. But, the problem is money, he wants huge money, I can’t even mention these figures”
Ofori would unquestionably be a sought-after player for other clubs, so it will be interesting to watch how these negotiations turn out.
