Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has discussed the blunder by Melusi Buthelezi before SuperSport United’s third goal against the Buccaneers.
The Spaniard cut a frustrated figure after his side gave away a 1-0 lead to concede three goals thanks to an inspired display by Shandre Campbell.
However, at the same time Buthelezi, who had kept five clean sheets in his last six league games, didn’t look too great in two goals, running under the corner before SuperSport’s second by Bradley Grobler, before gifting Campbell the third – but Riveiro refused to blame his goalkeeper after the match.
“Nothing, they are professional football players,” he said when asked by iDiski Times what he told Buthulezi after his blunder.
“They are here to perform and sometimes make mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes in our professions, right?
“We are not super heroes, we don’t do everything perfect and it was a mistake but football is a game of mistakes.
“Sometimes mistakes finish in goals, we also made a mistake in the first one, now we are looking to the keeper but if you see the first goal that we concede this is even more serious than other one. Even the second one is more serious than the third one.
“Nothing to say tonight to the individuals. I think they tried to play good football but it’s difficult to say that with a 3-1 against.”
The loss saw Pirates finish the first half of the season with 25 points from 15 games, and they finish the year when they host Stellenbosch FC on Friday.
The Orlando Pirates Football Club management are still patient with Coach Jose Riveiro and it has been said that if he end the season on a bad note or in a bad position in the log then Orlando Pirates Football Club will go on to find another head coach who will lead the club next season.
