Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says Patrick Maswanganyi will not be the last impressive signing due to the ‘structure’ at the club.
The 25-year-old playmaker was a surprise signing from SuperSport United a week before the start of their pre-season.
And he’s returned their faith seven seven goal contributions, two goals, and five assists in his first seven games in all competitions – which Riveiro says is the result of slotting seamlessly into the system amongst high-quality teammates.
“The reason for the good start? I think it’s the group of players welcoming the players in the right way, like Inno explained before, we have an objective as a group and we need everybody, so it’s easy to [do well] in this team,” Riveiro said.
“[Patrick] could feel the confidence from the beginning. And the way to profile? Look… the way of playing, and the type of football you want to play will determine the profile of players you need.
“Sometimes, depending on the environment, the players can look a different level, I think [Patrick] fits very well in the way we want to play and the needs we have as a team and he’s part of one group of excellent players that can play in that number 10 position.
“If you think about the number 10, the number eight or eight-and-a-half, that we have in the squad, the qualities are very high… he’s giving us competition in that position and making everyone else around in his position to perform better because of that competition.
“If I asked you now, who’s the best 10 players in the league, probably we’ll agree on eight or nine right but to find the players who can fit better in your team and the way you want to play requires a different type of research.
“One of the best players in the league we might agree in our team, might not shine at the same level – so we have a good structure in the club doing that research and scouting and fore sure [Patrick] won’t be the last [good signing].”
Maswanganyi looks set to play a central role for the Buccaneers when they host Mamelodi Sundowns this evening at Orlando Stadium (19h30).
Patrick Maswanganyi is one of the key players in the Orlando Pirates squad and because of his hardwork he has been mostly featured in the Starting lineup almost every match for Orlando Pirates Football Club.
Monnapule Saleng will also look to play on the right winger or Left Wing Position against Mamelodi Sundowns.
