According to reports, Orlando Pirates management and a key first team member are about to reach an agreement on a new, long-term contract.
Sipho Chaine, a star for the Orlando Pirates, is expected to sign a new contract with the Buccaneers. The player is one who helped the Buccaneers to win MTN8 after saving three penalties against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chaine surprised everyone by joining the team in 2022 from Chippa United, but he made a name for himself as the team’s best goalkeeper right away.
Chaine has made 33 appearances for the Buccaneers since joining the team, recording 12 clean sheets. So far he is the best goalkeeper of the team.
“The new deal for Sipho Chaine is imminent. It’s as good as done. Yes, the club had tabled a new deal and it’s just due for the player to put a pen on it.” a source told SoccerLaduma.
“Both parties are happy about the proposed new deal. They didn’t want to wait until it’s too late that’s why Orlando Pirates have done it with almost one and a half year to go.”
The team has four goalkeepers, but Melusi Buthelezi and Sipho Chaine are the two that coach Jose Riveiro prefers. Thus, Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane have not yet begun this season.
The Orlando Pirates management will have to decide what to do with the two goalkeepers whose contracts are about to expire next year because they are already out of favor; however, Richard Ofori is expected to receive a contract extension.
Jose Riveiro gave former Ts Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi a chance to prove himself to the team after Sipho Chaine sustained an injury, and he performed admirably, making nine appearances, keeping six clean sheets, and conceding just four goals.
