AmaZulu FC have parted ways with one of their players following the end of the first round of the 2023/24 season, the club’s president confirmed to FARPost.
Before the start of the DStv Premiership season, Usuthu undertook a mass squad clearout, with more than ten players leaving the club.
They then made 11 signings to strengthen the squad for Pablo Franco Martin who was appointed following the departures of Romain Folz and Ayanda Dlamini.
The club’s president Sandile Zungu has confirmed to this website that they have parted ways with the midfielder Tercious Malepe.
TERCIOUS MALEPE PART WAYS WITH AMAZULU
“Yes, it is true that he is parting ways with the club,” Zungu told FARPost.
Asked what prompted the separation between the two parties, Zungu stated frankly that the player wasn’t part of the coach’s plans.
He went on to speak highly of the 27-year-old, saying he admires the kind of player he is and sent him good fortune wishes.
“I think it was quite obvious that he was not in the coach’s plans. And he is a very good player, I rate him very highly and I like him,” he added.
“He wants to play soccer and I respect [that] and he needs to go to where he thinks he will play soccer. But he is a good player.”
Malepe didn’t feature much under Martin this season, playing only five DStv Premiership matches.
The former SA under-23 captain, Malepe joined AmaZulu on a free transfer at the start of the 2021/22 season. This was after he parted ways with the Ukranian club FC Minaj.
At a young age, Malepe was part of Orlando Pirates’ youth set-up and was promoted to the first team in 2015. He then had loan spells with Moroka Swallows, Ajax Cape Town and Chippa United before he left the Sea Robbers permanently in 2020 for Minaj switch.
