Mamelodi Sundowns the Dstv Premiership defending Champions is said to have turned down an offer for star player.
Goalie Ricardo Goss, who has been a standout player for Matsatsantsa a Pitori this season, is rumored to have rejected SuperSport United’s offer to extend his loan agreement with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Stan Matthews, CEO of SuperSport United, disclosed that Sundowns wants the 29-year-old goalkeeper back by July, when his two-year loan agreement expires.
In an interview with FARPost, Matthews said that he attempted to talk to Sundowns, but they made it clear that they wanted Goss back. He said he would have to find another option and that he respected Sundowns’ decision.
He gave Goss a lot of credit for his excellent performance on the team and for being in the Bafana Bafana mix alongside Ronwen Williams of Sundowns.
He did, however, state that he would have to let Goss challenge Williams at the club level and move on.
“I’ve tried [to have talks with Sundowns] but they indicated that he has to go back,So, it’s out of my hands and I must respect what Sundowns want. We signed a two-year deal and I must respect what they want to do,”. Matthews told FARPost.
“If they want to take Ricardo back, then he’s their player and I have to move on and find another option. He’s been a great addition to the team. He’s the reason why we finished in position three last year. And I think it’s been great for him to be in the Bafana Bafana mix, competing with Ronwen [Williams] but now he’ll compete with him at club level. And I need to move on.”
Matthews went on to divulge that SuperSport are currently in search of the goalkeeper who will replace Goss.
“We’ve already started the search, there’s three, four goalies already that we have assessed and we’re looking at more goalies next week as well,” he added.
