Former Cape Town City player Mpho Makola has spoken out about the strange manner in which the team fired him.
With five months remaining on his contract, Makola was given the exit door at City during the January transfer window.
After the team previously emphasized how much they loved him and the experience he offered to their young side, the former Orlando Pirates star’s departure was unexpected.
After joining the Citizens on a free transfer, Bibo’ played for them for four seasons. The nimble forward appeared in almost 90 games with the Capetonians in all competitions, recording three goals and five assists.
“Things [at Cape Town City] started to change after I missed a Cricket match that the team was meant to attend,” Makola told SNAWA
“I couldn’t go to that Cricket match because I had a meeting with my lawyer. After I missed that Cricket match, I was dropped for the next match.
“So when I asked, the coach told me about the Cricket match I didn’t attend. I said, ‘but I’m here to play football, not to watch Cricket’,” Makola added.
The former Bafana Bafana international has recently signed a short-term contract with Polokwane City of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
