Relebohile Ratomo, a teenage winger for the Orlando Pirates, appears to be a hidden gem among their young players.
Ratomo just joined the Pirates senior matchday squad for just the second time, during their recent 2-0 victory over Chippa United. However, he might not be there for very long.
The athlete can find comfort in the knowledge that his efforts for Pirates’ DStv Diski Challenge have not gone unnoticed, earning him a spot in the starting lineup, even though he did not enter the game to make his debut on either of the winning occasions against Richards Bay FC and Chippa.
Ratomo has done well to force himself into the conversation and closer to a breakthrough in a team that is simply packed with potential in the forward areas, with names like Monnapule Saleng and Thembinkosi Lorch just two key stars in front of him.
However, if the most recent rumours from Soccer-Laduma are to be believed, Ratomo might not even need to make it to the Pirates’ first squad. This is because it’s thought that a number of European clubs are seriously interested in the 18-year-old. This also applies to an English club.
“Siya sources in the know have informed Soccer-Laduma that the young sharpshooter’s performances have managed to garner European interest. According to a well placed source, an unnamed English club has expressed an interest in the School of Excellence product” wrote the publication
Then one of their sources discussed the circumstances surrounding Ratomo.
“Not many players manage to catch the eye in England, but there has been interest in his services. It is up to Pirates if they want to explore the option.” Said the source
Pirates signed Ratomo after he put up a standout performance at an Engen Knockout Tournament, and if the rumors are true, they may already be cashing in on the young player.
