Young Africans; Yanga president Hersi Ally Said has broken his silence on the club’s coach Nasreddine Nabi, who is linked to Kaizer Chiefs.

SABC Sport has reported that Nabi is in the middle of talks with Kaizer Chiefs to take over from Arthur Zwane. The two parties are busy thrashing out personal terms at the moment.

This comes after Amakhosi’s underwhelming 2022/23 season in which they finished fifth. The Soweto giants lost 12 games in the DStv Premiership, stretching their trophyless spell to eight years.

KAIZER CHIEFS’ UNDERWHELMING SEASON

The last time they won the Premiership title was in the 2014/15 season. On the other hand, Nabi won his sixth trophy in two seasons on Monday when his Young Africans narrowly edged Azam FC 1-0.

Nasreddine Nabi guided the club to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup where they played an aggregate 2-2 draw against USM Alger. They lost via the away goals rule.

The Tunisian mentor has been with the Jangwani giants for the last 30 months. He has delivered the coveted league title twice, the Azam FA Cup twice as well as two Community Shields.

Before his arrival, Yanga had gone for four years without winning the league as they watched their crosstown rivals Simba SC dominate.

However, Timu ya Wananchi has had the chokehold on their bitter rivals in the last two seasons.

Following his successful spell in East Africa, Nabi has caught the interest of several teams on the continent and in the Middle East.

YANGA BOSS ON PROSPECTS OF LOSING HIS COACH

The more pronounced offer, however, has been that of Chiefs. And those close to him say he is eager to take up the DStv Premiership challenge.

His Yanga boss has broken silence on prospects of losing his coach.

“We’ve obviously built something incredible with coach Nabi over the last two and a half years,” Engineer Hersi told SSNEWS.

“He’s at a club where we’ve created a good environment for him to succeed and he’s done well.
“Considering our success as a club in the last two years, it comes as no surprise that clubs would be interested in him.

“We’ve had a packed fixture schedule in a season where we’ve played 55 games. So the coach’s new contract hasn’t been discussed although we have made our intentions to extend known to him.”

Engineer Hersi further revealed that they would be engaging the coach on his future with the club now that the season is over.

The 58-year-old coach has previously coached in Libya, Sudan and Egypt.

According to a source, there has been rumours that Nasreddine Nabi will come along with Young Africans striker by the name of Fiston Mayele who has scored 17 goals last season in the Tanzanian Premier League.
