Some Kaizer Chiefs FC fans are still shocked and wondering why Kaizer Chiefs FC management decided to part ways with international goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, who is now playing at Moroka Swallows FC.
Chiefs signed Akpeyi, as he was already playing locally, since he played for teams like Chippa United. The management then later decided to let him go, and left with Itumeleng Khune, Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma and Bontle Molefe who was playing for junior team by that time. However, a shocking revelation have been made, on why the management parted ways with Akpeyi. According to the revelation, it’s not about performance at all.
There are two revealed reasons, regarding Akpeyi’s exit. We all know that in South African top league, a team is allowed to have not more than five foreign players, or else, other ones will not be eligible to participate in the league. The management was just parting ways with him to make a space for other foreign players, which the management wanted to sign, like Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Edson Castillo, Caleb Bimenyimana and others. So, the first reason was to make a space for other players.
The second reason was his age. Daniel Akpeyi is older that the longest Kaizer Chiefs FC goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune. Akpeyi is 37 this year, while Khune is 36 years old. So the Chiefs management’s plan, was to offload old players like Akpeyi. Shortly, the management parted ways with him because of foreign space and age. Now Akpeyi is playing at Moroka Swallows FC under the head coach, Steve Komphela.
In other news, Kaizer Chiefs FC management is looking forward to sign some new top players with the aim of strengthening their squad in a preparations of ending a trophy-less drought that has been hitting Amakhosi eight years ago.
According to the latest reports from some top publications like Soccer Laduma, Kaizer Chiefs FC is interested on signing one of the top wingers who has just got a national team call up (even though it’s a preliminary squad). It has been reported that Chiefs might be looking to sign Richards Bay winger, Sanele Barns.
“The club is interested in bringing another winger(Sanele Barns).” – the report said.
However, if Kaizer Chiefs FC end up signing Sanele Barns, his arrival might make Tebogo Potsane’s future with Amakhosi doubtful since they are both wingers, and Potsane is seem to be failing to break in to the starting line up.
“The club is interested in bringing another winger and that could affect Tebogo’s position and his future at the club. As it is, now his future is bleak. But if he can work to pull up his socks maybe things can change but for now, that’s the positive that he faces and things are not looking for him.” Said the report.
“If the club signs Sanele Barns, then it’s even more difficult for him going forward.”
