Thalente Mbatha is expected to sign a permanent contract with the Buccaneers after making a strong debut for the team at Orlando Pirates. Coach Jose Riveiro has been impressed by him.
Mbatha joined the Pirates in January after making an unexpected switch from SuperSport United to the Buccaneers on a loan with a buyout option. Even though Mbatha had only played 200 minutes for United, his talent was sufficient to persuade the Pirates to sign him.
The 24-year-old midfielder has had a big influence since donning the Pirates’ uniform. Mbatha has made eight appearances and already has one goal and two assists, solidifying his place in the hearts of the fans.
His Man of the Match honor in the 1-1 draw against Cape Town Spurs shows that his performance has not gone unnoticed. Mbatha’s future at Pirates appears bright.
Mike Makaab of Prosport International, his agent, expressed optimism for the player’s sustained success.
“He is playing and at this moment we’re quite confident that the option will be exercised,” said Makaab.
